Hello O Levels….
Saturday – Clear Morning, Cloudy Afternoon.
Today’s flight was kind of bumpy, very strong crosswinds making circuit training difficult than usual. Especially landing the plane when you have to keep the plane right in the center as you approach finals to the runway.
Before I started my flying lesson, I was chatting with Kumaran, one of my flight instructors. He was from Silkair, so I asked him about how the Airline selects their people for their Pilot training, I also asked will my O level results play a part during the selection? He mentioned that no matter what type of higher qualifications you have, they will look at your O levels result first. You must have 5 credits in a seating with English, Maths, Physics + 2 other subjects.
I was thinking, shit… My English is D7. Don’t tell me I got to reseat for all my papers again if I want the Pilot career cos cannot just retake English only as their requirement is to see you pass your Os with relevant subjects in 1 seating… SHIT MAN!!! - My all time quote again….
After that, he quoted some examples of his friends who tried the Airline to me. Both are diploma holders, both never got good results for their Os. One went to retake everything in 1 seating, and the other didn’t bother. But the one who didn’t bother went to complete his CPL (Commercial Pilot License) and other Aviation related qualifications. Guess who got the job?
It’s the one who retook his O levels….
Thus his final advice to me, “If you have the time, go retake your O levels, it won’t cost you much, do these after you get your PPL.”
At that time, what went through my mind was,
“Wah lan, this time sure going to fuked up man… “
“How? So old already? 24 liao leh! Shit! “
“What am I going to take?”
“English, Maths, Physics, what else? “
“History don’t think can make it, Geography never study before,
“A Maths dunno can or not leh, since my Engineering Maths cannot make it liao.”
Wah Lan!!! How!!!
All these shit are passing through my mind the whole day after I came back to Singapore from my flying lesson. May have to do some deep thinking and considerations, decide on what type of big changes I will be making in my plans for the next career change. So headache… Maybe make use of the time in Wallaby to give a thought about it.
